Bullying is a serious rising problem in our society, this paper will explore the growing epidemic of bullying and the long term health effects it can cause as an adult. Can childhood bullying lead to later issues in early adulthood? What are the after causes of bullying? These questions are studied in the articles chosen Copeland, Dieter, Angold, and Costello (2013) also in relation to five other research articles which suggest studies performed show long-term health and psychiatric issues exist in victims of bullying and the bully. A total of 1420 participants from 11 counties in Western North Carolina who were bullied and bullying were evaluated 4 to 6 times among the ages of 9-16 years. Participants were placed in three different category groups bullies only, victims only, bullies and victims. Psychiatric outcomes, depression anxiety, antisocial personality disorder were measured by controlled diagnostic interviews. Results of the study implicated the effects of being bullied are direct pleiotropic and long lasting with the worst effects for those who are both victims and bullies (Copeland, Angold, Burns, et al)

Children who are bullied tend to show more anxiety than others (Salmon, 1998). In addition “The experience of bullying in childhood can have profound effects on mental health in adulthood, particularly among youths involved in bullying as both a perpetrator and the victim” (Louis, 2013). Victims of bullying in childhood were increased risk of anxiety disorders in adulthood, and those who were both victims and perpetrators were at increased risk of adult depression and panic disorder (Copeland, 2012)This paper will present facts about bullying and its long term effects caused to the victims of bullies and the bully and how their outcomes
