There is an increasing number of an older adult who receives care in long-term care settings across the globe. This is attributed to the tendency of older people living longer with chronic condition demanding for a more professional nurse who has the will to offer their services in a long-term care environment comprising of nursing homes among others. Currently, many people are not interested in working in a gerontological setting which when coupled with the limited number of professionally educated nurses who practice in deviser long-term care setting lead to great disparities in the US long term care setting (Castle, 2012).
Longevity has been promoted by the medical advancements while technological advancements experienced in patient care has led to increased demands for medical providers and medical procedures as well the need for healthcare practitioners who are knowledgeable. In order to meet the increasing demands employers prefer employees equipped with diverse skill that are aligned to the increasing demands in the healthcare environment. Also, employs single out nurses with the ability to deliver their duties effectively in diverse healthcare settings in inter-professional teams.
