Long term care can no longer be thought of as an "if", it has become a "WHEN"!
This is heightened by the statistics that according to the Associated Press NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, only 54 percent of Americans age 50 or older have made any plans at all to focus on this problem. Imagine, close to 50 percent of Americans are either putting their heads in the sand or choosing to defer dealing with this issue. The certainty of care in the future is rising while the preparedness for care is not being addressed by the majority of clients. Not addressing this issue is a path leading to emotional and financial problems. However, it can be dealt with if we take the time and plan for the future.
Currently, 65 percent of people with long-term care needs rely exclusively on their family or friends for assistance and the average medium cost of a private nursing home room in America is now $92,378 per year. In NY these figures are substantially greater. …show more content…
This is causing a different problem, 66% of home care is provided by women and the annual amount of loss wages is staggering. The overall cost of providing long term care is rising at an alarming rate. Too many clients are spending thousands of dollars each month to provide for their parents well being. According to Pew Research, 47 percent of adults between 40 and 50 years of age have parents age 65 and older living with them and are also caring for their own children. The stress for many clients providing both money and dealing with this emotional problem, is a "NOW"
