When a family member ages and is in need of assistance, it can be a burden on a family member to take care for them. However, we have to remember what sacrifices our parents and family members have made in order to take care of us. We are serving God when honoring our parents. The Bible says, “The church should care for any widow who has no one else to care for her. But if she has children or grandchildren, their first responsibility is to show godliness at home and repay their parents by taking care of them. We should never allow the burdens of the world to over shadow our responsibility to our parents and loved ones. The Bible says, "Honor your father and mother"—which is the first commandment with a promise—"that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth" (Ephesians 6:2-3). We should remember that God will never leave nor forsake us and will not put too much on us we can’t bare. In life we all will get old one day and will need some type of assistance. I think that God has blessed us with abundant resources and tools to assist us with helping and caring for our family members. But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever (1 Tim. 5:8). With that being said, we do not live in a perfect world and depending on the families circumstances an at home nurse may work better than a long-term living facility. No matter which level of service a family chooses for it’s loved ones. They should never be abandoned and left to be lonely and miserable. The child or children should visit often and provide prayer and support to the family
