The author's use of word choice, Imagery, and organization to help support the detectives misunderstanding. The authors use of negative diction, helps heighten the sense nervousness and need for curiosity. The author continues to use words such as “dark,” “hard-coal black,” and ”empty fireplace.”…

She stumbled over the brick line right outside her low bedroom window, quickly wrenching it open to tumble inside unceremoniously. It was a good thing her room was on the ground floor, the low window a good exit, a means to escape without detection.
