Descriptive Essay On Family Reunion

Long rides to Pennsylvania for a giant family reunion means singing out our lungs and falling asleep on each other for my sister Katelynn and I. My family is from two different states Pennsylvania and North Carolina. We go up for a family reunion to catch up with our relatives every year and always have the reunion in Corry, Pennsylvania. The 12 hour boring car ride is always a time for my sister and I to have fun by listening to music together and nap on top of each other. The ride up to Pennsylvania always goes by so slow due to the anticipation of arriving and seeing all my aunts, uncles, and cousins in which we haven’t seen in a long time. The second Saturday in July is a day I look forward to all year. We usually arrive in Corry on the …show more content…
She is a very caring, curly haired, strong tempered young girl. She can be shy, and she can be loud. She is crazy and the youngest grandchild on my mother’s side and the middle child grandchild on my father’s side. She just turned thirteen and is already taller than me. She uses that excuse against me quite often. We are six years apart, and she is in eighth grade at Crest Middle school. She is the only one in my family who currently plays an instrument she plays the viola. My mother played the clarinet throughout middle and high school, and I played it for one year but didn’t like it to much so I quit playing it. We do everything together I take care of her on the weekends because my mom works on the weekend. Ever since I was younger I have helped my mother take care of her. My sister and I tell each other everything and don’t keep anything from each other. We go on car rides in the middle of the night and I took her to school every morning and picked her up every day. My sister always looks up to me and always asks me for advice. When we go on trips up north to Pennsylvania, sometimes my parents cannot go due to working my sister and I always go together with my grandparents. I stayed at my mother’s parents’ house on the weekends because my parents were working and my grandfather was telling the grandkids one day about how his family came to the USA in 1834 and landed in New York. His family then used the Hudson River and Erie Canal to get to Buffalo, New York then brought by ox team to Warren, Pennsylvania. He has documents where he will read out to us whenever we ask any questions about our history. I have also seen pictures of my great great grandparents along with my great grandfather when he was a child. My grandmother’s father was adopted, so she really doesn’t know much about her biological father’s family although her sisters are just now getting information to try and connect with their relatives. I often just ask my parents and grandparents about my family because I have always been curious in my family history and knowing where they were

Have you ever read a book or poem and wondered about the author’s life? I occasionally wonder about where he or she was born, about their education, their family, and even their life experiences. When I was in the fourth grade I got to thinking about and researching a person I was learning about in Social Studies and found out from my grandpa Teal that George Rogers Clark is an ancestor of mine. I thought that was pretty neat and always wonder how many more famous historians or writers I could be related to. Through my research on Geoffery Chaucer, I know that he is not an ancestor of mine, but whoever is related to him has one interesting ancestor.…

I interviewed my seventy-five year old grandpa Donnie, researched the Voyles lineage book that my grandma Arlene helped compile, and talked with my dad in order to find out more about my family’s history. According to Grandpa Donnie, it all began in 1759 when Jacob Voils, his wife, and his four sons landed in Port Charleston from Wales. Jacob was a poor man and could not afford the family’s way to Charleston. Desperate, he made a deal with the ship’s captain to indenture his oldest son William Voils as a crew hand for four years in exchange for the family’s way. Upon regaining his freedom, William furiously changed the spelling of his last name to Voyles to break all ties from his father Jacob.…

Almost 3 out of 4 prescription overdoses are caused by painkillers. It is obvious that the younger you are, the more naïve you tend to be. I had to learn at a young age that not everything in the world is rainbows and butterflies. I watched a family member struggle with addiction, to the point where it was no longer just affecting him, but the whole family. When I was young I loved traveling to see family, even it meant driving 12 hours north or south to see them.…

In the words of Shannon L. Alder, “Your perspective of life comes from the cage you were held captive in.” In other words, Alder is saying that the way you view the world is based on the way you grew up. Many aspects that impact the way you see the world include: your family, religion, parents, gender, role in the family, etc. A cultural lens is the way you see life and the world around you. It is what you were taught by your parents/guardians as you were growing up, and it is what decides who you will be and what you will do.…
