Long commutes and working hours in a highly competitive tech-environment have negatively impacted our society by breaking the connection with nature and reducing deep social connections. With the rise of population worldwide, as well as increased competition in workplace, achieving recognition and financial success has forced our society to work harder and longer than ever before. According to a lecture on Social Constructionism, Social Problems and Social Inequality., “functions are things seen as contributing in some way to social stability.” Competition increases the well-being of the society by optimizing the work output and bringing costs down. This in turn allows for a higher standard of living, better health care, and access to education.
