The problem with short moves is that people convince themselves it will be easier and less time-consuming. However, even shorter moves take a significant amount of time and planning. Give Yourself Plenty of Time
As mentioned above, people seem to think moving locally takes up less time. While the actual moving process may be shorter, the packing and preparation process takes just as long. So do not procrastinate and give yourself plenty of time to pack. You do not want to haphazardly pack your items in a single afternoon, because you might forget something.
4. Pay Deposits Before Moving
If you can, take the extra time to pay for your utility deposits before the actual moving day. You do not want to leave your items with the movers or friends while you sort out deposits, so pay it before. If possible, pay the deposits as soon as you can. It will save you time and give you peace of mind.
5. Transfer Your Services and Information
Finally, make sure you transfer your information and services to your new home. Electricity, gas, and internet providers should all be notified of the move. When you talk to them, tell them the date you will be moving in and ask to have the services connected the day of, or the day before, the move.
