Long Beach School Uniforms Research

I’ve lived in Long Beach California which was the first public school district in the US in imperilment school uniforms. I never had to wear school uniform which started back in 1994 for all K-8 grade students, I had just miss it but my little sister had to wear it for a couple of years. The idea of school uniform grew in popularity though out the US and many more school adopted the school uniform concept. The school uniform was imperilment by Long Beach school district in concern for students safety and creates a since of school pride among the students but some parents argue that in limits their child self-expression and individualism.
The concern for student safety was a main issues for many school district around the country and within the first few years of the mandated uniform policy in Long Beach the school saw a decrease is assaults, fighting, sex offences, robbery, drug offences, and vandalism. Having the school uniform keep the distraction down in class because they’re not concern on how they look, and therefore, are forces on learning. With the school uniform, it reduce the chance of bullying which stems from what they wear and the socioeconomic difference among the students are reduce because they don’t feel the pressure of fitting in with the in crowd base on their clothing. …show more content…
In addition, visual appearance of a uniform among student creates a sense of pride for the school just like that of when the student are part of a team. Some student’s feel they belong to a community and teachers seen an increase of respect and caring among the students throughout the school. Because students feel that they’re a part of a team it gives them a sense of importance and creates pride for the school. It also creates a professional look for the school and encourages the students to take learning
