The civil rights movement has been around for many years, it first started in the 1950s. According to history the african american civil rights movement only lasted from 1954 to 1968 because the civil rights act was passed in 1968 making it illegal to discriminate concerning the sale, rental, and financing of housing based on race, religion, and national origin. It also made it a federal crime to "by force or by threat of force, injure, intimidate, or interfere with anyone…by reason of their race, color, religion, or national origin". But the truth it that to this day there's still many many people fighting for their civil right. But it is not just african americans that are still fighting for their rights. Women, transgender people, gay and biseual people, non binary people and immigrants are all fighting for their rights that they rightfully deserve.
Right now the environment I live in is pretty good. Long beach is very diverse in my opinion, before living in long beach I didn't know about all the different races they were. Of course there's still racism here and there, there’s racism everywhere unfortunately. But sexuality wise i think Long beach is pretty great, there’s a pride parade every year by the beach and I think it's great exposure to smaller kids who are kind of questioning their sexuality or gender identity. If i can inform one person and they take in that in formation then I’ve made a difference. I believe I am part of the solution. Something i want to do in the future is go to a lot of protests for things i feel passionately about and hopefully that will help towards the movement. I also plan on informing my future kids and my future nephews and nieces on civil rights and the things they can do to make a difference and help out their
