Long Arrow Hero

I’m writing about an orphan boy who grew up deaf when he was young and wasn’t accepted by people in his village then later gained the ability to hear and started living normal, he worked and helped his grandfather to one day he asked him “But what’s a great thing I could do now, Grandfather?” and his grandfather said to bring back an elk dog from a place called “The Great Mystery Lake” so then he went on a journey to find the dog and make his grandfather and grandmother proud. Now I would consider Long Arrow to be a true hero and therefore as he helps his grandfather he says “I want to do something to make you proud and show people that you were wise to adopt me” showing the first trait of a hero which is ambition. Another part is when he says, “But what’s a great thing I could do now, Grandfather?”, showing ambition again because he wants to do something great. Long Arrow also showed braveness, which is apart of being a hero by knowing that people didn’t return to the village after going to the lake, but still wanting to go just to make his grandfather and grandmother proud. …show more content…
I’ll go and find the Elk Dog.” Describing how he is brave and heroic to be willing to do that for his grandfather. Arrow said in this line “Little one, aren’t you afraid of me?” he snarled. “No, I am not,” answered Long Arrow, smiling” showing this time that he is determined to get that elk dog. Arrow realizing, he has come to far to go back now shows that he is a true hero by saying “I knew all the time that this would not be easy. In setting out to find the Elk Dog, I already threw my life away”. He showed that by being a hero you must be ambitious, brave, and determined to do

Joseph Campbell once said, ”the cave you most fear to enter holds the treasure you seek”. This ideology of confronting one 's inner fears through obstacles and becoming more powerful each time, propel the hero of the story to become an epic hero at the end of their journeys of self-discovery. Odysseus in The Odyssey recited by Homer was certainly not exempt from the title of ‘Epic Hero’ due to his skills and his sympathizable traits’ and his fantastical adventures. While some may say The Odyssey is a tale of Odysseus piecing his life together, Odysseus is an epic hero nonetheless for his divine physical and mental abilities, with a wide appeal for his traditional Greek traits such as his yearning for his family and faith. Deerslayer is a valiant character who feels the need to protect and save others. He is always aware of his surroundings, and that leads to him being able to get out of many tricky situations. He has some very problematic views of the world, but that is to be expected from that time frame, but it still made it hard to picture deerslayer as the hero, but nonetheless he was the hero of this story. A knight of the wilderness is the only way to describe deerslayer because he is valiant, he observes his surroundings like a warrior, and he would rather be in the wilderness as opposed to a settlement.
