Lonesome Town Analysis

No.1 Lonesome Town There are only three elements in this music: vocal, acoustic guitar, and the chorus. Because of there are only three elements, the stereo image builds on how wide and narrow the sound is instead of placing to the right or left location. However, I feel that the acoustic guitar is a little off to the left, and I hope that is not the problem of my hearing. The chorus is the widest sound that spread all over the left to right, and the distance of the sound is the farthest. On the other hand, the acoustic guitar is the closest with a narrow stereo image, and without the obvious reverb and delays, it sound like it is in a different location comparing to the exaggerated room effect of the vocal and the chorus. The vocal sounds loud enough to feel that it is close to us, but the room effect, which filled with big reverb and probably a magic touch of delay, makes the environment sounds like in a church or hall room. The main guitar is a little bit to the left from the center, and the bass is a little bit to the right while all the brass instruments is all the way to the left. As for the aspect of distance, the guitar, the bass, and the low brass sound in the beginning are in the midfield while the horn that shows up in the middle are much farther. I think that the drum's distance changes through the music. In the beginning it is in the midfield with other instruments, but when the horn shows up it changes it's distance to match with the far away horn. The triangle and the special percussion is extremely close and dry, and these two instruments sound like they were recorded separately in a well soundproofed studio unlike the others which are mostly wet and sound like they were recorded in a large room with a nice and moderate
