Curley’s wife hides her desperate longing for company and loneliness, and this leads to the flirtatious attempts she takes, behind Curley’s back, in an effort to gain someone’s attention. Her first signs of loneliness is shown when she first enters the bunkhouse since George and Lennie arrive. Before this first encounter, she had been described as a “tart,” or a woman that dresses or acts in a provocative or enticing way. She is dressed in clothing of bright red colors that are, in a way, inconsistent with her surroundings. Being well dressed in a farm-like environment, along with her playful way of talking, reveals her subtle desire to be noticed by the men. Having received the word of newcomers, Curley’s wife enters the room, stating that
