It was one of those nights you’ll never forget in Sarah’s case. It seems that Sara had an audition for a performing art’s school which has always been a dream of her’s being the ballet that she is and of course wanted her mother to be there to watch her experience that wonderful moment but, sadly her mother was so busy that she couldn’t quit make that promise. After recognizing that her mother was not there for her audition she became furious and was upset with her mother until she found out that her mother was involved in car accident trying to get to her audition which she now holds herself accountable for. Now she has to move with her father who has hardly been in her life. Imagine having to go through that, you just lost your mother …show more content…
After a loss, people often speak of being devastated and wonder if they will ever be able to get their lives in order”. You may experience depression, fear, anger or guilt. Also in chapter 11 we discussed about loneliness and solitude. Loneliness in the book meaning someone who “is generally triggered by certain life events—the death of someone we love, the decision of another person to leave us (or we them), a move to a new city, a long stay in the hospital, or a major life decision. Solitude meaning “we make decisions for ourselves, to discover who we are, and renew ourselves”. While it may not look like this is what Sarah was experiencing but, blaming herself for her mother’s death and quitting dancing because she believed that it was her fault is why. She was able to confront this fear of loneliness later on in the movie when she meets this guy named Dereck. I feel as though Dereck and Sarah’s character are somewhat the same. Both don’t have their mother’s in their life with Sarah feeling like dace is the reason her mother is dead and Dereck feeling that he has to repay his friend Malaki for taking the blame for something they both did …show more content…
They also had face consequences. Due to the path they decided take. Staring with Sarah who started a fight with Nikki who is Derek’s old girlfriend. But, why I think this hatred all started was because of Sarah being white girl. At one point of the movie you can see the hate on Nikki’s face when the gym teacher compliments her. Chanille telling Sarah that she basically needs to back off her brother because that is the reason why all if this altercation is happening. Roy not being in this daughter life. Dereck’s mom being a crack head and not being her kids life. Malaki somewhat is experiencing the Lucifer effect, having the courage to hit a girl and shoot someone Making wrong decisions which leads him into getting arrested at he end of the movie. He seem to wanted to be this tuff guy that everyone should be scared of but, deep down Dereck knew he wasn’t that type of person. Snookie seemed like he could’ve been a bright person but, didn’t make right choices for example making face ID’s for people. If Sarah’s mom did not love her so much and wanted there daughter to be happy, what happened on that day wouldn’t have happened. Although something tragic did happen Sarah was able to overcome her fear of dancing again. All the character’s seemed to have face the consequences for their actions or choices they decided to make. They choices the character’s decide to make are both

Elisabeth Kubler-Ross’s (1969) five stages of grief had a huge impact and breakthrough in the world of theory, although many other theorists had their take on grief and loss such as, John Bowlby and Sigmund Freud. Kubler-Ross’s five stages identifies, denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance, relating well with Gemma’s transition process and all of the feelings Gemma experienced throughout this period (Kubler-Ross & Kessler, 2014). To this day it is believed that many people still revert back and use Kubler-Ross’s five stage model (Webster, 2017). In the book that Kubler-Ross wrote she highlights that loss isn’t, “…just through family and friends, but also in the feelings of loss that come with the inevitable life changes we all endure” (Kubler-Ross & Kessler, 2014, Pg 1). This was important for me to understand through carrying out this interview with Gemma as it allowed me to fully empathize with Gemma’s situation and enabled me to apply the most appropriate theory.…

The plot centered on the impact of the accidental killing of a small child in a car accident, which shaken the lives of an American family and their attempts to come to terms with the impossible and emerge stronger than before. The two grieving parents, Becca, the protagonist of the play and Howie; serve as examples of how gender roles in the family were not always relevant.
