Brill and Emily dealt with their loneliness a different way, they needed to fill the empty space that they had in their hearts. Neither women had romance in their lives or relationships with other people. Both women had a chance to meet people but they did not want to be judged. When Miss. Brill was judged by the girl, it affected her usual Sunday routine and made her put up her favorite fox fur. Emily was afraid about being a old maid that she went through desperate measures to make sure she did not die alone. They wanted to be accepted into society, they wanted to be like everyone else. Most importantly they just wanted to be happy.
