Loneliness In John Steinbeck's Of Mice And Men

The True Face Of Loneliness One third of people are often lonely or have ever been lonely. Today's American society, people commonly forget that they need each other. Even a small conversation, or a bright smile can encourage someone to cope with their loneliness. People are constantly begging to find love, or maybe even just a friend, someone to talk to and laugh with. They unwillingly push others away, in result of their loneliness. How can they learn to cope with their loneliness? Steinbeck captures the difficulty in loneliness, and more importantly, how to cope with it. However, now she is lonely due to the fact that she abandoned her mother after believing that she stole her letter to become famous. Curley’s wife claimed that she was not going to to stay at a place where she could not “make something” of herself (Steinbeck 88). She lived her new life missing her family and feeling lonely. She regrets abandoning her family, but she tries to convince herself that she has done the right thing. Curley's wife seeks for attention, she has been working and trying as hard as she can to be noticed so she would never be as lonely as she is now. She felt betrayed by her mother, and felt very alone when she left her family. As a way to cope with her loneliness, she married the first person she saw, which happened to be Curley. She met him at the “Riverside dance place” the same night that she left her mother (Steinbeck 86). Curley's wife was so lonely and in such a desperate need for attention that she married Curley, and then admitted that she did not even like him and he was not a “nice fella” (Steinbeck 86). However, Curley's wife left her mother in result to her loneliness, she then married Curley to be able to cope with her
