In the book “The Things They Carried”, the author used the theme loneliness and isolation throughout his book in order to express the reality that the soldiers had to go through during the war. The theme is represented as the hardship they had to go through by themselves in order to overcome their obstacles. They couldn’t depend on other people except on themselves because they didn’t know who could die next or get injured; they had to carry their pain day after day.
