Lone Survivor is a book based on the encounters the Navy SEAL team 10 went through. It explains the difficulties Marcus Luttrell went through alone and with his teammates. The story takes place in the Hindu Kush Mountain in Afghanistan on June 28, 2005. Marcus Luttrell, Michael Murphy, Danny Dietz, and Matthew “Axe” Axelson are all specially trained Navy SEALs that were on the operation “Redwing”. The operation was where they had to either capture or kill a high ranking Taliban leader that was said to be close to Osama Bin Laden. The team was dropped off on the Hindu Kush Mountain on June 28, 2005. The team was moving down the mountain when they stumbled upon a group of goat herders. The team together had to decide to kill them or not. They knew it would be inhumane to kill them, so they released them. That was a big mistake. They were approached by a large group of Taliban fighters later that afternoon and were surrounded by the left, right, and forward. The Taliban fighters began opening fire on them, they had no aim, but since there were …show more content…
The theme is all about war. They are in a war throughout the whole book in flashbacks and in real life now. Another theme would be brotherhood. They are all one big brotherhood and will not leave a man behind even if they are getting shot at. They stick together till they are dead no matter what. It is shown by the way they care and treat each other. The irony in “Lone survivor” is the audience knew that everybody dies except Marcus. In the book, everybody knew what was going to happen to the other three men, but the three men didn’t so we knew more than what the characters did. Another irony is when they captured the goat herders and that’s how the whole fight began because they didn’t kill them. They were put into a situation where they had to do what was best and even though they chose the best option it still cost them their

F: How does the way O’Brien structures his work inform the themes and messages he develops? The way O’Brien structures his work through the use of narrative storytelling, direct quotation, and recurring motifs help emphasize the themes of post-war hardships, emotional weakness, and guilt . O’Brien uses common motifs of amoral decision making, isolation, and moral ambiguity. The motifs set the path for the book because O’Brien creates a novel about a group of men who endure the mental and physical fight on war.…

In a book titled “Lone Survivors” by Chris Stringer, Stringer presents to us his interpretations of the origin of modern humans. Previously, there were two fossils including a tooth and a finger of a female and male, found in the Denisova cave of Siberia which revealed a species that was perhaps indirectly related to both the Neanderthals as well as Homo Sapiens. In addition, they have unique features that are enough to separate them to their own distinct species. These fossils convinced Stringer that perhaps modern humans today are not a pure species but rather a mixture of other hominid groups. Neanderthal genes may still be in us.…

In Lord of the Flies, the main themes that I noticed are; betrayal, bravery, survival, and fear. During the book, Ralph gets betrayed many times by Jack, someone who he believed was going to be his friend, the ending of the book is really when it comes to light. Also the next three themes exist throughout the entire book and are noticeable in every characters. The themes I noticed in The Maze Runner were; friendship, order, and fear. The theme of friendship is probably the main theme that I saw, all of the boys have to be friends in order to survive and to get back to civilization.…

Thelma and Louise, a film by Carolyn Ann Khouri, trails the liberations of two working class women in the 90’s. These women plan a weekend away from the men in their lives due to the fact that Thelma’s husband is a misogynistic man who feels that a woman’s job consists only of housework and cooking. In the first scene of the movie Thelma wants to ask her husband, Darryl, for permission to go on the trip with Louise. He yells at her and she quickly changes the subject. In my opinion, this is one of the most crucial scenes in the entire film because it outlines the sexism and discrimination that these two women will face throughout the course of the movie.…
