Unfortunately, Zach was born with several physical and intellectual disabilities causing severe obstacles in school. I was giving the opportunity to play teacher in real life and tutor him. It made such a positive impact on both of our lives, I knew I had found my calling. Growing up in my family meant learning to think quickly, critically, and routinely having to adapt. Due to my father’s profession, we moved every six months until my sophomore year. By then I was attending the fifth high school of my career as a student, but a slight career change meant we could stay in one place long enough for me to graduate. Today, I am working on my fifth semester at Lone Star–Tomball; I am a proud member of Phi Theta Kappa, and a founding officer of I Will Teach Tomorrow, Lone Star-Tomball’s new future teachers club. A part of me is in awe of myself and what I have been able to accomplish. Two years ago, I found myself stuck in quite a rut, considering defeat and the ultimate acceptance of my situation. Life is much different today; I am confident, focused, enthusiastic, and passionate. My dream of teaching is finally at my fingertips. Instead of wishing for things to happen, I am making things happen; I am planning, building, and most of all, I am achieving. I always had the will to succeed. The difference is my desire to do great things has become the GRIT to get them

The decision to revisit the idea of school nearly took a year of research. Applying at a traditional college was not the route I would be taking. The school, the time and effort, and of course cost ought to work for my family. A couple of the goals that steered the way to continuing my education are graduating with an associate’s degree and also implementing it into a career in Healthcare Administration. Background Story I grew up in a city roughly halfway between Seattle and Tacoma where much of the population is toward the low socioeconomic standing. Spending grades K-12 in the public school district that was not the worst, but certainly not the best. Learning has always come naturally, so I was never pressured to give my education much (if any) thought until the summer before starting my sophomore year of high school. The next few years were the most agonizing and the influential of my life. A turbulent divorce left my mom working two jobs and forced an involuntary maturation process.…
