London Underground Temperature Change

Decent Essays
Temperature change – Temperature change refers to the difference in temperature between two different time periods. In this paper, temperature change of the London Underground is compared between the winter and the summer. The paper states that the temperature of the system fluctuates from 25 degrees Celsius in the winter and 32 degrees Celsius in the summer. Therefore, this means that the average temperature change of the London Underground between winter and summer is 7 degrees Celsius. The primary reason for this difference in temperature is due to the warmer air temperatures in the summer.
Specific heat capacity – Specific heat capacity (s.h.c) is the energy required to raise the temperature of 1kg of a substance by one degree Celsius.

I moved to Yuba City, California approximately twelve years ago and have lived there ever since. I chose to analyze the climate trends of Yuba City because, even though I may move away soon after graduating college, it is where my parents will continue to live and I would like to have an idea of future climate changes in their city. Yuba City is a fairly small town in Sutter County with a population of 65,416 people (United States Census, 2013). It is located on the Feather River 45 miles north of Sacramento at latitude: 39.140 and longitude: -121.617 (LatLong.net, 2015). It was founded in 1849, established as a distribution center for supplying the Gold Rush 49ers (Yuba City, 2000a).…

Therefore a central heating system will use the difference between the temperature that is being set and the actual set point so for example, the temperature is 38 degrees Celsius. The heating system will get close to this temperature say 37 degrees or so but it will use the remaining power that has not been used for the temperature and distribute it somewhere else such as the power to keep the boiler…

    Summer Me Lab Report

The hypothesis I made was supported because when the lab had concluded, it was clear that the maximum temperature of the northern hemisphere tilted towards the lamp (the Summer ME) was greater than the southern hemisphere tilted towards the lamp (the Winter ME). Although the thermometers did not all begin with the same temperature reading, I observed that by minute eight the temperatures began to reflect the positioning of the globe. The model of Summer ME was more quickly heated than the Winter ME. By comparison, the rate of temperature increase in the first eight minutes averaged a 1.88° C increase per minute for the Summer ME, and a 0.4° C increase per minute for the Winter ME. Another fault our group encountered was improperly positioning the thermometers for convenience, and some believed that their orientation may have affected the reading slightly.…

In this essay I will assess the Medias representation of the UK’s predicted winter of 2015/16 in association with El- Niño and compare with the scientific knowledge of this topic. The media is the leading source of communication globally, with the British public dedicating 6 weeks of their lives talking about the weather (Daily Mirror cited in Gavin et al, 2011, p.423). The media’s tendency to simplify and overexpose information has often resulted in repudiated claims because of misrepresentation. However, it could be argued that simplifying information in order to model/represent complex material is something well practiced in scientific fields; which is also vital for the media, as a healthy democracy has a general interest in scientific issues (Hargreaves et al cited in Gavin et al, 2011). Global weather is an open system in a dynamic equilibrium, this means that all weather systems interlink and has impacts over latitude due to atmospheric and oceanic changes caused by El-Niño.…

BUILDING SERVICES AND ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE Student no: 3318911 • Human thermal comfort is ultimately dependent upon six simple parameters that can be easily measured and assessed for any individual in any particular environment. This allows us to design buildings within which all occupants will be thermally comfortable. The aim of a building, either dwellings or commercial buildings is to offer shelter and a different climate from the world outside . One of the factor to consider to build a favourable place to work or live is the thermal comfort.…

An important tool in this field is the calorimeter, a device used to measure the quantity of heat released or absorbed in a physical or chemical change. A calorimeter works by having heat transfer between the substance 1 (substance being tested in a physical or chemical change) and substance 2 (substance used so heat is transferred). Usually substance 2 would be water because it has a precisely measured…

A comprehensive performance analysis of an EAHE could supply great help for the design and application of EAHE in gas turbine. At first the soil temperature at different depth along the year was evaluated to determine the optimum depth for high performance and low economical cost. Then the effect of structural factors including the pipe length and inner diameter, in addition the effect of air velocity passing through the pipe on the performance were studied. The air temperature at the inlet of EAHE was selected fixed at 40 ℃. It is fixed at this value because the average maximum temperature for the selected rejoin is about 40 ℃.…

Cool water was placed into the calorimeter and its temperature recorded, while an equal weight of water was heated to 35.3 ⁰C. The heated water was immediately poured into the water in the calorimeter and the temperature was recorded. The water equivalent of the calorimeter could then be calculated. Approximately 100 g of cool distilled water was placed into the calorimeter and the initial temperature recorded. Solid sodium sulphate decahydrate crystals of 4.00 g were added to the water in the calorimeter and stirred until it dissolved.…
