Lolita Persuasive Speech

Detention he said. I simply asked “why?”. He replied with a stern, touch-too-loud tone of voice and said “don’t argue with me Ms Elizabeth. I will see you after school.” So after debating whether or not to go I decided to show up to this undeserved detention. Usually detention is a class of people and we all just have to sit there and do work or something, but I walked in and I was the only one. Mr Hensley was sitting at the back of the class reading a book titled ‘Lolita’. He knew it was my birthday tomorrow and said “im glad you showed up to your detention. Soon you’ll be 14 and you’ll be all grown up. Just like me.”

Who's going to complain about rape jokes? Rape victims? Hahaha they barely even report rape.” I thought about saying something but decided not to just in case someone like Hensley would hear me and know my secret. So I ignored it and continued on.
We had a year meeting in the hall. I found an empty chair at the back and sat down. Naturally, my head dropped down and I began fiddling with my hands. Our year coordinator stood up on the stage with a microphone and told us our geography classes are changing. They handed out timetables to everyone and said our new classes will start tomorrow.
I don’t have many friends, I never have over my schooling life, just the two. Cassidy and Sophia are my friends but it’s not like we stay in contact after school hours. Well, I don’t anyway. We are all in separate geography classes and don’t know which teachers we have. Im nervous, but nothing would have prepared me enough. I walked into my classroom and took a seat. Not long after, Mr Hensley walked in with his brown tattered suit

I already know a few of you in the class-“. He looked me straight in the eyes with the same look he had on his face when he had his hand gripped over my mouth.
“-but anyway, I’ll get someone to handout the text books and I want everyone to turn to page 247. Ms Elizabeth, would you mind getting the books from the back, my dear? You know where they are. You’ve been there before.”
My mind flashed back to the horror and the terror that was rushing through me when he slowly locked the classroom door and shoved me into that same storeroom. I quickly snapped out of it and followed his orders. The smell of old text books was trapped in that room like murderers trapped in a cell. As the smell creeped out and made its way to my nose a rush of panic slowly began to hit me, hard. I took the pile of text books to Mr Hensley. As I handed them over he gently grazed my hands with his. It wasn’t noticeable enough for the class to see, but enough for me to know what he was doing.
The lunch bell rang and I rush out of that classroom as fast as I could. I could hear him call my name. He wanted to talk to me after class but I wasn’t going to have that day

On Friday 10/9, English class was one to remember. Every day besides Wednesdays I have English class and it is defiantly a class to look forward too. My teachers are Mrs. Archabal and Mrs.Wheeler, two of the best teachers in the school that are credible. We call Mrs. Archabal “Arch” and we call Mrs. Wheeler “Wheels”, they don’t mind because mostly everyone at Thayer calls them by their nickname. So, on Friday, we had English class second period…

I glared at that dumb Colin Schwartzman, as his dumb eyes stared at the glowing computer screen. He was playing my favorite game, Clifford the Big Red Dog. My game! I had even told my parents to wake me up early the night before just so I could beat him to the computer. Colin looked up at me from the screen and said, “What are you looking at Blocky, you’ll never get the play this game so long as I’m here.”…

Shining Library Book Me and classmates were told that we had to do something nice for the school. It wasn’t just our grade, it was the whole middle school who had to something. There were tons of jobs to be done just inside the building. When it was nice out, some of the 8th graders would go out and do the things outside, while the rest of us stayed inside. My job was organizing the bookshelf in the library.…

I needed to go get my stuff from my locker with the other 150 kids that also needed their stuff. I fight through all those people and managed to get to my locker. I grabbed my backpack with my lunch and the book I’ve been reading “From the Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler”. Now that everyone has their stuff, we started walking.…

It was the second week of school junior year, in my third-period physics class. The bell rang shrilly, signaling the commencement of my own living hell. The teacher - a small, wiry man with a bit too much bite - sat in the back of the room. Grade book, and red pen in hand, he waited impatiently with a cold glare. The clock's ticking was loud in my ears and mixed with my rapid heartbeat.…

After reviewing my persuasive speech over why the University of Oklahoma is the best university in the nation, I would sum up my speech as a little bit of train wreck. Although I made good claims with factual evidence, the amount of stuttering I did, and all the times I was choked up throughout the speech drew my audience’s attention away. From this, I lost my audience’s belief that I was competent of the information I was reiterating to them. At the introduction of my speech I believe I started out fairly strong and gave a good run down of the coming speech.…
