From Minesweeper to Fallout, PC gaming has come a long way. This somewhat expensive hobby can provide hours of entertainment and relaxation. For some, it’s an addiction and others, a form of entertainment. The first computer game was named “Spacewar!” and was released in February 1962. The game released exclusively on the DEC PDP-1, the world’s first commercial interactive computer. This being said, computer gaming was initially invented 13 years after the creation of the computer and has been in existence now for 54 years. Traditionally, a mouse and keyboard have been the bread and butter of the computer gaming world. But there are several other hardware devices that allow a gamer to play his/her favorite games. League of Legends(LoL) is multiplayer online battle arena, or a MOBA. There are many games like it, but LoL is the most successful at this moment. LoL gets it’s inspiration from a game called Dota, created in 2003 as a custom map creation for the game Warcraft III. Dota 2 had the highest prize pool of $5 million for the winning 5-man team “Newbee” in 2014. Aside from MOBAs, there is First Person Shooters(fps) with serious franchise giants such as Call of Duty, Battlefield and Fallout. Third person shooters, including the Grand Theft Auto series and DayZ usually have an open-world aspect, meaning you can do pretty much whatever you want within the game’s bounderies instead of playing a strict story mode. Real time strategy games(RTS), including Starcraft and the original Warcraft usually offer a slower paced, settlement building style of gameplay. Even games such as a Big Truck simulator allows you to pretend you’re the driver of an 18-wheeler driving cross-country. There is even a game called I Am Bread, where you are a piece of bread and your objective is to flip yourself up surfaces and across counters, into the toasted to become toast. The types of games and games within these categories is quickly becoming endless. Even on Facebook, unlikely gamers have been born in this past decade, from grandmothers to babies.
