How Does Wind Energy Affect Propellers

Improved Essays
It was anticipated that the smaller blades will produce the most power because the shorter it is, the lighter the mass of the blade will be, therefore it will be easier for the wind to manipulate its movement. Wind Turbines are constructed to be proportionally large because it’s expected to capacitate above the Earth’s surface, where the wind is predicted to be more powerful. Since the blades in the experiment were all at the same level, and the air was pretty much controlled, the large rotors didn’t get a lot of power because the blades weight was heavier than the rest. This was expected due to the calculation that the mass of the rotors or propellers will be easier for the wind to manipulate as it is short and light. If an object like a rotor, is placed in the …show more content…
Kinetic, Wind, Mechanical , and Electrical energy are several types of energy that exist in this experiment. Wind energy was present as it was used as a resource to make the propellers move, the wind was blown toward the propellers, making them spin therefore transforming wind energy into mechanical. Mechanical energy was present because a fan is a machine that helped to generate the wind, when the wind was blown through the propellers, the gadgets inside transform the mechanical energy into electric. Electrical energy was also present because the contraption transformed the energy from kinetic to electrical. Kinetic energy is moving energy, the contraption was moving throughout this process, therefore it uses kinetic energy constantly. The actual results matched the expected results. Due to the weight of the small propellers, it made it easier for the wind to manipulate its movement, making it spin faster. This made it easier for the contraption to convert kinetic energy to electrical energy, this was evident in the results. The smallest blades produced 1.636 millivolts the most output energy in comparison to the other

    • The wind energy depends on wind velocity. Wind velocities at different heights were expressed in terms of the corresponding available velocities at equal heights with and without reducer turbines. The results show that wind speed increases with reducer, starting with 1.35 times at the top of the reducer. The maximum increase is noticeable at about 300 slopes.…

The earliest evidence of the use of the oceans’ tides for power conversion dates back to about 900 A.D.”. In 2015 tidal energy is changing thanks to innovation in technology but it still has a long journey to go before it can compete with other renewable sources such as wind energy. FORCE (Fundy Ocean Research Centre for Energy) has been perfecting this technology so that Canadians around the Atlantic region can have access to a eco-friendly energy source that will not only provide them energy but one that can have minimal damage on the aquatic eco-systems. Tidal energy works by harnessing the force of tides. This force will push a turbine which when pushed produces energy.…

There are 2 types of wind turbines, a drag type which has a high torque but slow turning speed and a lift type which, because of the blade design, creates a lot of air pressure and is spun much faster. Because of the lift type being able to spin faster, they are more often used for creating large amounts of energy at a time. Wind turbines are similar to coal power because as the wind rotates the blade, the axle of the blade rotates a generator similar to the one inside of the coal plant. The blades rotate a large magnet in the center of copper wires and the current is harnessed from it. The mechanical energy is changed to electrical and then goes on the same sort of path that the coal plant does, into a transformer to up the voltage and finally back down when reaching a house or neighborhood, however this time with no…

Critique of “Wind Power Puffery” In his article, “Wind Power Puffery”, H. Sterling Burnett argues that the advantages of wind power are grossly exaggerated and often cause more harm than good. Burnett, an expert in America on environmental issues, has obtained a Ph.D. in philosophy and a B.A. in cultural anthropology. He mainly writes opinion based articles about current environmental and energy topics and wrote this article to express his opinion on wind generated energy. Supporters of using wind energy in place of burning fossil fuels claim that relying on wind power will decrease air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions, which Burnett strongly disagrees with.…

This wind power got converted into mechanical power, which used to produce Electricity. “People started using wind power centuries ago with windmills, which pumped water, ground grain, and did other work” (Hunter, 2011). In other words, the wind’s turbine uses the wind to generate electricity. Advantages of Alternative Energy Sources: • The main advantage of renewable sources of energy is that they are inexhaustible. This makes them sustainable and reliable now and in the future.…

Some days the wind won 't blow therefor no energy is produced .This is because as u all know that the wind doesn 't blow all the time. And for wind energy to be produced the wind has to be blowing enough to propell the blades on the turbine along enough to produce energy . This is really the best reason for why the wind energy is not taken off right now . Little maintenance and high energy outputs equals the energy of the future.…

The balloon is placed on a contraption which was custom built to provide the desired gravitational potential energy between the balloon (or object) and a strip of wood. The apparatus also is able to exert a normal force on the balloon which equals the force due to gravity. This allows the balloon to be held up until there is a new force applied to it horizontally. The train begins to move forward and creates more tension on the string which is tied to both the balloon and the train.…

When it comes to the topic of investing the government 's money, one controversial issue has been whether or not we are spending it properly. On the one hand, some people will argue that the government should invest more money expanding oil and gas. While others contend developing wind and solar energy would be the smartest way to go. Mark Lewis argues that oil prices could stay so low that is no longer economic to bring in high cost new oil fields. But even if the oil price does rise, it will not be able to compete with a renewable such as solar and wind.…
