After reading a critique about her book “The Giver”, she had an epiphany. She asked herself the challenging question once more and realized, we actually don’t know what questions to ask. We have no clue. Then she wanted to know, but why not, and her answer was “because we turn away”. Loius Lowry states that as humans we turn away from things that are hard to handle, sad, and uncomfortable.
Later in the speech she begins telling the audience about her son and his pet rabbit. The eight-year-old let his rabbit out to play then suddenly, a dog came by, grabbed the rabbit by its neck and ran off. But luckily, the little boy rescued the rabbit from the …show more content…
The books they read now are cut throat. Growing up, reading a book I wouldn’t really know what the book was trying to say unless I dug deep down to find the meaning. But, as a child who really does that? My favorite reading selection from this semester would have to be the last thing we read, “The Watsons go to Birmingham”. It brought back old memories from when I was introduced to it a long time ago. Even after all those years, it was still interesting. My least favorite was Dr. Seuss because after learning more about him and the meanings behind some of his writings were disturbing. The roles and responsibilities for the writer when writing a child’s book is to keep it kid friendly. Don’t expose the child to something they’re not ready
