Imagine a world with no winter, where it is always summer. Americans would say that that would be horrible. The author eric klinenberg does a great job arguing the problems with the world of air conditionings. He states that they have been destroying the world's environment and that it has been making the world a lot hotter while taking money and energy. In the article, the author eric klinenberg clearly uses the rhetorical appeals of ethos, logos, and pathos to create a persuasive argument.…
One of the 3 animals Dante encounters on the path is the she-wolf. In the article “ The Divine Interpretation: A Study Of Metaphor in Dante’s Inferno” by Melanie Barker talks about Dante’s first meeting with beast and why he has related She-wolf with incontinence. She writes “she is mysterious and because wolves tend to hunt in packs. In relation, sins of this irresistible nature tend to be coupled, as the wolves hunt together.” She explains that he chooses the she-wolf as she is very strange and mysterious and wolves are known to hunt in packs.…
I am writing this to inform you over Logos, Pathos, and Ethos. Everyone has heard about these three rhetorical strategies even if they do not know what they fully mean. These are professional tools that authors use everyday. Authors or any one person can use them when they are trying to persuade you into buying something or if they want you to do something.…
Rhetorical Analysis: Inappropriate rhetoric demonstrated During the three video presentations the appeals such as pathos, ethos and logos were present to demonstrate, suggest and emphasize persuasion in what they were trying to illustrate. To better understand, Pathos is the way we express emotion while speaking, writing or while we present our selves. (Video: Introduction to Pathos) Ethos is the author's credibility about the topic spoke, written or experienced shared, for example if I would talk about how to cure a disease and I'm not a doctor my words wouldn't be as credible as if a doctor was speaking.…
When you think of pictures, what do you think of? Captions? Memories? Meaning? Something that explains the picture’s purpose?…
The artwork I chose to imagine is Van Gogh’s famous oil painting called Starry Night. It was painted in June of 1889 and has grown to be known as one of his most famous paintings. Van Gogh was a post-impressionist and painted Starry Night from memory in his apartment. The view is of a village from a window in an asylum. I chose this painting because it has always been hanging in my Aunt’s living room.…
In “Demonology” by Rick Moody, he uses different motifs of photographs to help give information as well as an emotion for the audience. It first starts out with what seems a regular Halloween night where the kids are all dressed up going house to house followed by their parents. To me, all of these pictures and scenes beside the last one where Moody’s sister suddenly passes away, give more insight on the life that him and his sister had. It feels like it’s an average family during situations like the trick or treating or when the sister is drunk out of her mind. It is all something that people in some way can relate to with their friends, and family.…
This advertisement supports pathos, ethos, and logos. For pathos, it first includes the picture of a baby which catches the readers eye and reminds them of the baby whose life will be affected by their decision. The second part of pathos includes words such as “plagues”, “diseases”, and “for generation”. It makes the reader realize the severity of their decision and how long the disease has been a problem. For ethos, it talks about being concerned about the side effect of immunizations and makes it sound like they also concerned about the side effects.…
Whilst modern day humans go about their everyday life, it is highly likely they crave something more; Something adventurous to modify their suburban lifestyle. However, humans fear the unknown, the risk of losing security and comfort, rarely reaching beyond the bounds of day to day life and experiencing the world around them. Despite this, there are some individuals that are passionate and daring enough to experience what the world has to offer and find pure joy and serenity. In the biographical book Into the Wild, Jon Krakauer reveals the life story of an intelligent young man named Chris McCandless who died of starvation in the Alaskan wilderness. Krakauer tells of Chris’s journey from his childhood to his final days on earth; as well as his most notable adventure all around the western United states.…
The Details to Life Photos contain a variety of details which create breathtaking images. From the vivid colors, visual metaphors, to the arrangement of the picture, details create images and bring them to life. This makes it easier to pull details from the image and allows the audience to visualize and find emotion from a simple picture. When using these elements, it is possible to set the tone and meaning behind the picture. Companies take advantage of this opportunity to catch their audiences’ eye and accomplish their goal.…
Bleh, locking down a clear understanding of ethos, pathos, and logos took a significant amount of time and research. Being able to apply this concept to a paper I found to be even more difficult especially in clarifying ethos and logos. In my mind, I over simplified the two concepts to ethos equaling credibility and logos to mean the accuracy of the information, but in my research, this was not always the case. In a basic Google search of rhetoric and web design, many sources stated that logos was the layout and ease of use of a website. The ethos, on the other hand, was how "professional" the website looked.…
There have been several deaths caused by the plaguing addiction of drugs and alcohol. Drug use is becoming a growing problem that needs to be contained and prevented with the help of an expansion of the organization LAPP (Licking County Alcoholism Prevention Program) branching out into its own center called EPLAPP, (Extensive Progression of Licking County Alcoholism Prevention Program). To cut back on the drug use and deaths in Licking County, EPLAPP will provide users and abusers with the resources they need to sober up, cutting back on the drug use rate which will cut back the number of deaths. With the creation of EPLAPP, the services being provided will be more in depth and help some with more employees/volunteers to help addicts, along with other resources, such as financial aid, counseling, and sober living facilities. To persuade readers that the expansion is the best way to combat drug abuse, the use of ethos, pathos, and logos will be implemented.…
On September 11th 2001, a group of militants working for the group called Al-Qaeda hijacked 4 airliners and carried out a series of attacks on the United States. Two of these planes crashed into the towers of the world trade in New York, One plane crashed into the Pentagon and the final plane crashed into a field in the Pennsylvania area. 15 minutes after the pentagon attack a catastrophe turn for the worst was made in New York when one of the towers collapsed in a cloud of dust. 30 minutes later another tower collapsed in a mountain of smoke. 3000 people where killed during these attacks out of these causalities firefighters and medical staff where among the few killed.…
The paradoxical role of photography in contemporary life is explored by Teju Cole in his essay “Memories of Things Unseen.” When a photograph is the last trace we have of a destroyed work of art, it becomes something more, or so it seems. Photography in its purest form is simply a method of storytelling without the need for words. Many factors go into taking a photo. You don't simply take a photo using just your eyes, but rather with your emotions, experience, and heart.…
There is only so much a news article can say, but a photograph can bring emotion to you that changes your outlook on that situation. For example, a very famous photo by Richard Drew called ‘The Falling Man’, a photograph of the 9/11 attack witnessing the moment a workman from the towers plummeted to the ground after jumping. Even though this event was worldwide renowned, many people were unaware of the actual emotion associated with the event, the terror and the destruction that happened on that date. The different and most impacting part of this image is that from this event the most widely known photographs were of the planes or the towers, whereas Drews photograph was of the people, which creates a whole new level of compassion and emotion…
