New regulations to restrict alcohol fuelled violence have been in place in Sydney for barely a year and now the government is considering imposing similar laws in major states and cities all across Australia.
Recent changes in the Sydney Entertainment Precinct have undoubtedly decreased violence rates in the CBD and Kings Cross. But these new lockout laws have left numerous locals feeling as if the NSW government is putting restraints on their lives by taking away the wild Sydney night life. Now, the Australian Government wants to enforce similar regulations all across Queensland, Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia. Due to the shocking number of these incidents, all paramedics in Melbourne and a few other cities are being given basic self-defence training to protect them while they’re on the job. But still, several unsatisfied citizens argue that not enough is being done to protect people’s lives and that the lockout laws should be enforced all over Australia, despite the economic and social consequences.
One of the major consequences of lockout laws is the economic failure of businesses in the Sydney Entertainment Precinct. If lockout laws were imposed all across Australia, this would undoubtedly happen to all the major cities, creating widespread economic devastation.
