“La Ciudad y Los Perros”, translating to “The Time of the Hero”, was the name of his first ever novel that was based on his time in military school. Released in 1963, it was about a group of cadets trying to go through life at the school, despite the bullying and violence, even resulting in a friend's death. The novel itself caused such an uproar with the academy’s authorities, that they burned thousands of books in protest.
The other novel that was, more, loosely based off of him was called, “Aunt Julia and the Scriptwriter”. The novel was about a thirteen-year-old who was in love with his uncle’s sister-in-law. The same boy also befriends a scriptwriter who was writing operas for the radio. This story was loosely based off of his first marriage, when he, himself was nineteen and was married to his then thirty-two-year-old aunt.
And while he did write more novels than those two. none of them were based on any parts of his life after those two. But, besides “The Time of the Hero”, every single one of his other books has won a Nobel prize. Which includes, “Aunt Julia and the Scriptwriter”, “The War of the End of the World”, “The Feast of the Goat”, and “The Bad Girl”
