Lizzie Velasquez was born on March 13, 1989, in Austin, Texas. She has three siblings. She was born four weeks prematurely and her weight was only 1.219 kilograms. She was born with a rare congenital disease, called Marfanoid progeroid lipodystrophy syndrome. It has prevented her from body fat and gains weight. She has never weighed more than 29 kilograms and has almost 0% body fat. Furthermore, she is required to eat many small meals and snacks throughout the day in average between 5,000 to 8,000 calories daily. In addition, she is blind in her right eye since she was 4 and caused a vision impaired in her left eye. Lizzie studied at Texas State University until 2012, majoring in communication studies.
When Lizzie turned to 17, she experienced the worst nightmare. She discovered a video of herself on YouTube which was described as the world’s ugliest woman. The video attracted 4 million people and thousands of negative comments. One online commentator advised her to

She was working on a project called ‘’The Lizzie Project’’ in order to (Idiom 8) shoot the film, through a Kickstarter campaign which is the world’s largest funding platform for creative projects. She invested her own money and also raised money to fund the crew, lighting, sound, transportation and many other aspects that are necessary to complete physical production and shooting of the movie over the course of 10 weeks. The goal was to raise 180,000 USD. There was also a rule, whether she could not reach her goal by 30 days deadline, she would lose all of the money raised and the opportunity to make that film. Lizzie also has a special power such a mental resistance of humor that everyone can relate to her.
