However, as discovered in the court by Bridget Sullivan, the maid of the Bordens, there had never been an unkind word between her and her stepmother. No blood was found on Lizzie's dress. When Maggie was called downstairs, she recalls that there was no blood on her dress. In the rooms where her parents were murdered, the rooms were spattered with blood. She was also said to have burned a dress in the stove because it was covered in paint, but in article seven a painter admitted he was hired by Mr. Bordan was told to take orders from Lizzie who also helped with what colors they would paint with. The bodies of the Bordens were mutilated by an ax, as proved by the medical examiner Dolan. Medical examiner Dolan proved it was done with a heavy sharp weapon, but the four axes found in the basement weren't covered in any blood and one of the axes was unusable because the handle was snapped. Lizzie would not have had the strength to snap an ax handle, especially on a squishy body. The blows make it look as if the person was insane because there is no point in mutilating a dead body and at no point did Lizzie act or seem insane.
