Living In Joplin

Decent Essays
In one’s younger growing years, Joplin is a wonderful place to live. Living in Joplin can seem like a curse to some, but for me it’s a blessing in disguise. Joplin has plenty of great restaurants, a mall, and plenty of potential of growth. Working at a car dealership gives one plenty of valuable experiences that one can use in any career setting. One reason I live in Joplin is because of my current job and future career. As a business development representative at Fletcher Toyota I get hands on job experience in an industry that will always be needed. In the future I plan to continue in the car industry, hopefully becoming a branch administrator for a car manufacturer. Joplin also has a good educational set up with public and private schooling,

For the purpose of this assignment, I chose Blue Valley Multi Service Center which is located here in Overland Park, KS. Overland Park is about 40 minutes southwest of Downtown Kansas City. It is part of Johnson County which is a fairly large county. The county itself is drastically different from the KC Metro area because it is known to be a very affluent area, especially the south half of Johnson county. Many people from my hometown use the phrase, “Everything is greater in Decatur.” Decatur, GA is where I was born and raised and has been an integral part in shaping me into the young lady I am today and the woman I am becoming. Members of my family and my community have gone on to do great things outside of this city, which has provided solid proof that there are more great opportunities outside of Decatur, GA. People have left to become educators who are now teaching, guiding, and delivering necessary tools for individuals to be successful; lawmakers who are developing plans and policies to create a well-balanced and structured society; professional athletes who are working diligently to study and perfect their craft, and many other professions.…

For the next five years I lived in White Plains, New York and living there was unique, in that owning a vehicle was obsolete. I was able to walk to the store, the park and to school. The ability to walk everywhere gave my the opportunity to build relationships with my whole community and to many, it may come as surprise that even with living in a big city most of the people living within it knew each other. Even though I come from a culturally distinct country and lived in the city that never sleeps I can only call Baltimore, Maryland my home. Living in Baltimore, has had a big impact on my life because it has shaped my identity and personality.…

Brownsville, Texas is the town that I was raised in and can still call home. It was rich with Mexican culture and delectable, greasy tacos but it was still an economically disadvantaged city meaning that there were never enough resources to guide students to better opportunities. Of course, I never knew I was deprived of such an apparent luxury until I came to The University of Texas at Austin. When this realization came, I became frantic because of how behind I felt. I began looking for all sorts of resources and opportunities the university had to offer.…

Growing up in Louisiana has been a part of my life. Before moving back to Virginia in the 7th grade, we resided in Louisiana for about 7 years. We would travel to New Orleans very often for various sporting events that my siblings and I would participate in or we would go to watch the New Orleans Saints or the New Orleans Pelicans play. New Orleans has so much to offer that for all ages. Many people may think that New Orleans is only for adults but there are some kid-friendly things to do.…

My decision to read Alice Echol’s “Scars of Sweet Paradise: The Life and Times of Janis Joplin” was sparked by my interest in the 27 Club. The 27 Club refers to a number of popular musicians who died at the age of 27, often as a result of drug or alcohol abuse. Janis Joplin is the first of three members of the 27 Club that I am going to write my life studies on. Janis Lyn Joplin was an American singer-songwriter. She rose to fame in the late 60’s as the lead singer of the psychedelic rock band Big Brother and the Holding Company.…

A community environment serves an important function in shaping our personal development and belief system. The community an individual grows up in says a lot about that individual as a person. With strengths, comes weaknesses and every community differs in many ways. The community I grew up in may differ from the community others lived in, and that’s what makes us all unique and different from one another. No matter if you live on Grand View Drive or you live on the south side of Chicago each community has its different problems, and just because someone may live in a different neighborhood than you doesn’t mean you are complete polar opposites it just means you experience obstacles differently in your daily routine and that is completely…
