The country of Honduras announced their independence from the Central American Federation in 1838. Their economy instantly began struggling to develop. It wasn't until Marco Aurelio became president that Honduras began to see improvements. The area in Honduras that benefited the most from this was the Atlantic costal region of Honduras because the people began to grow and export bananas. The education also suffers extremely to the rural areas. The drop-out rate of students is high, and even the teachers are barely qualified for what they do.
