These soldiers were heros and fought for our country, but the living conditions they had weren’t exactly the best. They slept under a piece of cloth that they made into a tent. It was a six feet square; put tar on the ground for bad weather conditions (Helm). Most soldiers during the march got rid of the tar because of the extra weight. When the rain and bad weather came they regretted that decision sleeping on the ground caused illnesses to occur. They had feeding shortages because of the tens of thousands of soldiers they had.Their was a scarce in fresh meat, fruits, vegetables. Since the soldiers were not getting the right diet their immune system started to deteriorate and vitamin deficiency diseases started to occur. Both the north and
