Silva grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada while her father worked as a landscaper where she went to school, learned English, and soared to the top of her class.Silva states that she didn’t realize that she was undocumented until later in her life, when her parents began to worry about her doing ordinary things like applying for college because someone might discover she was undocumented(Morrow).She felt that getting a college degree was out of her reach since she was an immigrant But she ended up going to community college and graduating with two associate degrees in arts and political science.
