As a black man in today’s society, it is no longer surprising to log on to Twitter and see that another black life has been taken. The issue is that black people are being killed for illegitimate reasons by white people. Furthermore, these same people are getting away with these killings. For instance, the Trayvon Martin case which was one of the most famous recent occurrences of injustice done to a black person. Martin’s death, among many others, started a civil movement within the black community. I will argue that there should be no boundary between black lives matter and all lives matter; instead the injustices should be a unified issue for all races. Overall the issue is that innocent lives are being lost and justice is not being served,

The Black Lives Matter movement started off as a social media hashtag and grew into something more due to the founders Alicia Garza, Opal Tometi, and Patrisse Cullors. The movement started as a result of the anti-black racism that has been embedded in the United States’ society for numerous years. The Black Lives Matter movement is a body of ideas and political interventions in a society where black people are purposely singled out to be killed. On the official website for Black Lives Matter the founders describe the movement as “ ...an affirmation of Black folks’ contributions to this society, our humanity, and our resilience in the face of deadly oppression.” The purpose of the Black Lives Matter movement is to aid the black people in our society that basically have little or no power.
