Within this assignment we will talk about the definition, symptoms, causes, effects and treatments of Liver Cirrhosis. The case study is about a forty-two-year-old Simon who is an accountant, he is married with two teenage sons. Due to the stress of Simons job he unwinds at night with a drink or two or maybe three. He feels that his wife is nagging at him about his drinking but he feels that he has never been drunk. He noticed his bellying expanding and his clothes wouldn’t fit.

The diseases that lead to cirrhosis do so because they injure and kill liver cells, after which the inflammation and repair that is associated with the dying liver cells causes scar tissue to form. This results in clusters of newly-formed liver cells (regenerative nodules) within the scar tissue. The focus of this stage is generativity which is composed of three related activities: procreation, productivity and creativity (Meggitt, 2004). Procreation means having children from the case study we can see that Simon has two young teenage sons who are 18 and 16 years old.
Productivity is desiring to make society better for one’s children.
Creativity involves learning new things rather than rigidly trying to maintain things as they used to be. If one fails to establish a sense of generativity it will result in stagnation and self – absorption (Meggitt, 2004).

This can be related to Simon as he does not realise that he has a problem drinking. As Simon has two sons he needs to concentrate on his job to finance his son’s futures. Simons older son wants to studying medicine when he completes his Leaving Certificate, this will cause Simon a large amount of money and as Simon is drinking it won’t help to put his son through college it would be best for Simon to stop drinking at to stick at his accountant
