I had gone to Little Tokyo and interviewed around two to three people. I choose this specific place because I wanted to explore the city and I might learn new thing from here. I also wanted to find out what’s the different between Little Tokyo and the place I’m living at. The peoples that I interviewed had different perspective about Little Tokyo. The specific person I’m going to write about is a woman name Cathleen. The gender Cathleen identify herself as a her/ she. As the first time seeing Cathleen, I didn’t know that she was Asian until she told me her race. In my mind, I thought she was Mexican. She is from Los Angeles, California. She currently lives in Monterey Park. Cathleen just move to Monterey Park this past month of October. Cathleen …show more content…
So, she moves to Monterey Park because the benefit she is getting from Monterey Park is that it’s very safe to live. The place is very quiet at night comparing to living in Lincoln Heights. In Cathleen opinion, she thinks Monterey Park population is not diverse because it’s mostly Asian who are living there. The culture and etiquette is very homogeneous. A drawback from Los Angeles was that she had less privileges than other people around the area. Since she moved to Monterey Park, it makes her feel like she is part of the family. On the other hand, she doesn’t have to dealt with any people from the place she lived because those people are very mean and they aren’t nice to her. These are the reason why it makes her feel very frustrated and stress out. The place she lived before, she feels like there are lots of history there. For example, in Little Tokyo, Chinatown, Thai Town, Olvera Street, there are lots of parades and celebrations of different backgrounds. Recently they had the Aid Walk in Little Tokyo, and every Christmas Eve or around December time, they have a Christmas parade in Lincoln Heights where all people from Los Angeles or any close area would come and do their parade or have a show for the audience. I believe the Aid Walk was for cancer awareness month. Los Angeles has lots of parade, but sometimes it’s very unsafe to live at. It depends on the neighborhood where you

Things to Do in San Juan Capistrano Great Stone Church The ruins, more commonly known as the Great Stone Church, is one of the most interesting sections of SJC Mission. The church was laid out as a cross shape with a bell tower that can be seen as far away as 10 miles and whose bells could be heard even further. This historical church lasted only six year as it was destroyed by a 7.0-magnitude in 1812. The earthquake also took the lives of fifty plus people who were buried in the old church cemetery.…

Whether people acknowledge it or not, everyone makes assumptions based on race. For example, when someone sees an Asian student, he or she will often assume the student is studious and smart. The brain automatically categorizes people based on their appearance. However, race is not always apparent from the outside.…

In the short story, “From B’wood to the Hood” the author Ryan Smith talks about the struggle of moving from one side of town to the other side. The first thing that stuck out to me in the story was when the author says, “I broke the news to my mother that I was moving from Brentwood to the hood”. This reminds me of when I recently decided to tell my mom that I was moving to Denver, Colorado from Lancaster, PA. Although she did take the news better than I thought, she still tried to talk me out of moving. She eventually started to support me with my new endeavor in life and she wound up driving out to Colorado with me the last week of July. Another thing that popped out at me while reading was “my father separated from my mom”.…

The multifaceted class interests defines the communities like NKO, which consist of predominantly African Americans. Since gentrification is a familiar story, in which people believe that gentrification is only about improving residents’ living standards. Pattillo’s story is different because she looks at the process of gentrification within a mixed-income community while new residents deftly negotiate their stay with the formers. I enjoyed reading about how Pattillo created gentrification as being a vicious cycle of conflicting inter-class and interracial interests and not just focusing on neighborhood improvements. Although that is very important, I found it to be more enlightening to learn about how race and social status influenced urban development as Pattillo succinctly summed it as “the politics of race and class in the city.”…

The Bridge called my Back is an anthology that focuses on the lives of feminist women of color from different racial groups: Blacks, Chicana, Native Americans, Asians, and etc. In this anthology, Moraga brings up the term “theory in the flesh” when she talks about entering the lives others. According to Cherrie Moraga, a theory in the flesh is the physical realities of a person’s live such as skin color, place of birth, sexual desires, and etc (19). The theory is developed using the female writers’ “flesh and blood experiences to concretize a vision that can begin to heal our wounds” (19). Moraga saw this theory as a way to help bridge some of the contradictions that women of color felt about themselves and about being colored women in a white…

In the book “The Other Wes Moore”, the four main concepts that can affect an individual’s life path is environment, personal responsibility, influence, and expectations. Environment and influences are related to each other because different environments have positive and negative influences within them. Personal responsibilities can vary greatly from person to person; some learn responsibility at a young age by doing chores or younger siblings while others never learn to take responsibilities for themselves or their actions. Then, expectations can be what individuals expect from themselves or what others around them expect them to do. However, I believe the four main concepts that shape a person’s direction of life are common sense, new environments,…
