Over past centuries many versions have been written depicting their own differences. Charles Perrault 's 1697 version, Little Red riding hood can be contrasted in several ways against Brother Grimms ' version, Little Red cap.

The mother is more prominent, telling her child “not to stray from the path”, which may have a literal, as well as a figurative meaning.
