Other Appearances: Before beginning the analysis of Prince’s “Little Red Corvette”, I would like to share something that maybe people wouldn’t know. In Ronnin Ro’s book Prince: Inside the Music and the Masks, Ro writes that “one morning after recording all night, Prince sat in Lisa Coleman’s pink Edsel. He was dozing off when” he came up with the first line of “Little Red Corvette”. (Ro) “He jotted (down the rest of the lyrics) between short naps.” (Ro) During these

As they make out, the narrator tells the lover that they need to slow down and “find a love that going to last.” If the lover doesn’t slow down, they’re going to eventually be worn out on the affairs and may not find their true love. The narrator then leaves as the lover as the song beings to fade out. It sounds as if the most dominate instruments throughout “Little Red Corvette” are the drums, keyboard, and bass guitar. The electric guitar is heard in the piece, but does not have a dominate part until about halfway through the song. Even though the beat remains more or less steady, Prince’s vocals seems to occasionally change pace between the verses and chorus. (Almost as if as the “mood” of the story has a slight influence on the pace.) In all honestly, I never really cared for this particular piece, though I enjoy some of Prince’s other songs. But I was impressed when I read in the book that, with the exception of the additional guitar soloist and backup singers, that Prince played all of the instruments on this

For this first discussion I have chosen "Stravinsky: The firebird, Finale" and "Duke Ellington: The "C" Jam Blue". These two differed in a variety of things. For "Stravinsky: The firebird, Finale" I felt like it was more like orchestra music while "The "C" Jam blue" was more like jazz. I felt like the pitch for " The Firebird Finale" was more high than "The C Jam". Also the dynamics for " The Firebird Finale" fluctuated a lot in tone.…

In the twenty-first century we tend to distract ourselves with technology that keeps us from taking the time to genuinely think, or rather that is what twenty one pilots want you to see. “Car Radio,” written by Tyler Joseph of twenty one pilots, is based from a personal experience Joseph had where his car radio was stolen and the experiences that followed. It, and the associated music video, produce the argument that we need to spend more of our lives in silence rather than surrounded by sound. The rhetoric of twenty one pilot’s “Car Radio” is effective because of emotional appeals to ethos, logos, and pathos. Twenty one pilots establish their credibility by placing themselves in a place of power and control in their music video for “Car Radio.”…

“Echo,” a poem by Christina Rossetti, reveals the universal longing for a loved one departed and the nature of one’s thoughts as they echo without a person on the other end to respond. The speaker in the poem, perhaps a woman, appears to have lost her lover to some kind of death. She wishes to be reunited with her lover, either in dreams, or in her own death. The game revolves around three protagonists or antagonist (depending on your views) named Franklin, Michael, and Trevor who are all on a mission to succeed in the city of saints, Los Santos, which in itself is a satirical reimagining of modern day Los Angeles. The game starts off with a bank robbery that occurs in the small city of North Yankton. Here you are introduced to Michael, Trevor, and Brad who attempt to escape a barrage of mid-western cops. Illustrating the complexities of interpersonal relationships, the XX released their self titled freshman album to critical acclaim. Among the songs on the album, “Islands” best demonstrates the complexities of interpersonal relationships owing to its lyricism, both minimalistic and introspective. Two lovers declare loyalty to each other while recognizing the sacrifices they are making; they are reluctant to let go of the freedom they cherish but feel preconditioned to be together. Much of this story lacking in the lyrics of the song but is portrayed using other means. Through the use of cinematography an element of expression is depicted that would not otherwise be possible through melodic and lyrical depiction alone.…
