Was Little Miss Sunshine A movie to watch? The Little Miss Sunshine directed by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, released July 26, 2006. The Little Miss Sunshine starts off with a little girl named Olive watching the Miss America beauty pageants, hoping to be her up there on the stage one day. In the the movie the family is from the beautiful desert Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Sheryl Hoover played by Toni Collette is a mother of two who all live in in Albuquerque, New Mexico along with Her brother, Frank played by Steve Carell who is a scholar of French author and who later reveals being a homosexual and temporarily living at home with his sisters family after having attempted suicide. Sheryl's husband Richard is trying to personality strive to build a career as a motivational speaker and life coach. Dwayne played by Paul Dano, Sheryl's son, is a teenager who has taken a vow of silence until he can accomplish his dream of becoming a test pilot. Richard's father, Edwin recently evicted from a retirement home for doing drugs, lives with the family and he is very close to his seven-year-old granddaughter Olive. Later on Olive learns she has qualified for the "Little Miss Sunshine" beauty pageant that is being held in Redondo Beach, California but only has two days to get there. With that, the family has to push the van to a certain speed and then jump into the van while it is moving. Throughout the whole road trip, the family suffers numerous “bumps in the road”. First, Richard loses an important contract that would have jump-started his motivational business. Edwin dies from a overdose, the the family ends up smuggling the body out of a hospital.
