In “The Last Olympian”, Triton who is shown as arrogant, and cold towards Percy Jackson is also caring yet possessive. He seems to doubt humans as they are seen as manipulative. But, he is controlling, as he manipulated Jason and the Argo’s crew into giving him the tripod. It seems that human and merman used the power of manipulation when they want to achieve something. Manipulation seems to be one of the greatest power used by humans and gods. Triton just like every father cares and loves his children. Triton in “The Little Mermaid” is presented as a caring and protective to the point of prohibiting his daughter of dating a human of the opposite sex. Hades has many very interesting relatives and desires. His mother Rhea, and father Cronus had six children, so it was a big family. Hades is the oldest male out of his two brothers, Poseidon and Zeus. Hades is the ruler of the Underworld and precious metals and stones. For example, Poseidon, the second oldest, is the ruler of water such as oceans, lakes and rivers. Zeus has the ability to throw lightning bolts and is the only one who can ride the winged horse Pegasus. Speaking of Zeus, he had a daughter named Persephone and captured her. Athena has had the greatest influence on Telemachus’ growth. Homer’s epic The Odyssey demonstrates Odysseus’s son, Telemachus, at first as an inexperienced, timid, and helpless young prince that is greatly pampered by his mother, Penelope. Due to his lack of confidence and assertiveness, Telemachus struggles to stop the many suitors who overrun his father’s palace and greedily devour the family’s vast stockpile of food and wine. Like Odysseus, Telemachus experiences his own journey in The Odyssey, and becomes increasingly more mature and brave thanks to the divine influence of Athena, the goddess of wisdom. Her guidance and use of disguises instills confidence into Telemachus to not only stand up to the suitors but search for his father as well, thus aiding him in his journey and travels to manhood.…

In the guise of a family friend, Athena confronts Telemachus, telling him, "My advice to you is this [...] Get the best ship/you can find, put twenty oarsmen aboard, go and find out about your father/and why he is so long away..." (Homer 17). As Telemachus had been close to considering his father dead and embracing the position he was in, which could have potentially led to him imploring his mother to accept one of the suitors as her new husband. In addition to that, Telemachus full-heartedly accepts the choice to go on a search for his father, which leads to him gaining the vital life knowledge he was neglected due to the absence of his father. Having been keen to the blatant contemplation of killing Telemachus by the suitors was a large factor in the role Athena had assumed when interacting with Telemachus, and as such, it also had ensured his survival in the condition his family had been. While seemingly negligible, the advice that Athena purports as Mentes is tantamount to Telemachus finding courage and direction his life, his safety, and the devotion of both him and…

These stories of the great-god Poseidon also resemble some stories from the medieval times, for example Thor in “The Tale of Utgarda”. It may look like that Thor is the mightiest of all gods and will not have anyone pressuring him. however, he is still tested at every turn and sometimes he fails and sometimes he is the winner, but the constant pressure of having to excel at everything is very much alike to the worries of their loss of agency that bothers Poseidon as he also feels like excelling at all but gap between their belief and their reality is quite big. In “the tale of Utgarda” when Thor is asked to take on challenges that Loki throws at him, he takes them without giving it a second thought and is reminded of the fact that he,…

Long ago in the deep, blue oceans and the boundless seas near Greece, peace did not exist in the waters. Two siblings, Lavendria and Poseidon, were enemies who did not love one another, like brother and sister should. The two fought like cats and dogs, constantly nagging at one another. The urge to start a fight was uncontainable, similar to brawls between the two common house pets. Poseidon, god of the sea and earthquakes, specifically ruled over the Mediterranean Sea. He lived there on a daily basis and protected all sea animals. His younger sister, Lavendria, was also an immortal goddess, who ruled the Atlantic Ocean, which happened to be the ocean that the Mediterranean flowed into. Lavendria was the goddess of tsunamis, and she looked…

“Give me a lever long enough and a fulcrum on which to place it, and I shall move the world,” stated famous Greek inventor, Archimedes . One of the city-states of Greece, Athens, used their adept shipbuilding skills to create the most powerful navy the world had ever seen. Using this great navy as a ‘fulcrum’ the Athenians protected their territory and fended off dangerous enemies like the Persian Empire. The main component of this great navy was a type of ship known as a trireme. The ancient Assyrians first made triremes around the fifth century BCE. A trireme is a three decked sailing ship that was also powered by human rowers on all three levels. The foremost part of the trireme was a massive bronze ram that was used to smash gaping holes in enemy…
