The five basic functions of management that he includes are planning, organization, commanding, coordinating, and controlling, which I feel would fit best with Little Blessings Adoption and Consultation Agency (Lewis, Packard, & Lewis, 2012). Little Blessings Adoption and Consultation Agency is going to offer many different services meaning the organization is going to be divided into different departments, the universal management principles will allow the organization to flow smoothly while all departments are working together. Fayol talks about the term gangplank, which means that there is a bridge that enables individuals in different departments to communicate with each other without having to go through the chain of command as long as they are at the same level (Lewis, Packard, & Lewis, 2012). This concept would work great in Little Blessings Adoption and Consultation Agencies since there is going to be a need for communication between departments for the adoption to be completed. Universal Management Principles allows for more open communication throughout the agencies, which allows the adoption or consultation process to run more smoothly. Little Blessings will have multiple departments so that the families don’t have to contact multiple organizations to complete their adoption. Little Blessings will have multiples departments which will include birth mother adoption and support, adoptive families and support, counseling prior to and after the adoption process, and post adoption care.
