Malayan Sun Bear – Part 1 The helarctos malayanus, commonly known as sun bear, is the smallest breed of bear in the world. An average a fully grown sun bear will weigh between 30kg and 60kg and will be 120cm to 150cm tall. A sun bear’s fur is also short and thick so that their fur doesn’t get stuck on branches but can still offer protection from branches so the sun bear doesn’t get scratched. Sun bears also don’t have fur on the bottom of their feet so climbing is easier. Sun bear’s commonly have black fur but can also be a dark brown, grey or red.…

Those that survive the summer are at their most ravenous--and dangerous state. Starving bears often lose their natural awareness. Polar bears are not currently an endangered species.…

The Polar Bear exhibit at the zoo was the smallest exhibit that I viewed for the day for such a massive animal. By estimation, the exhibit is about 70 feet wide, and 100 feet long. Half of the exhibit is terrain which was a smooth flattened rock surface with several big rocks for the bear to climb up on. The other half of the exhibit was a pool of water, the zoo designed the pool with the edges of the pool to be white, to perhaps give a more arctic feel for the viewers. Also, there were many toys present for the polar bear to play with, including a bowling ball, a small looking metal trash can, and a rubber ball.…
