Getting Involved in the Community
There are many ways people come together and help the community, whether it is by donating, volunteering at churches, or at shelters. There is a problem that everyone should or need to know about, and that is littering. Littering happens everywhere and have caused problems in our parks, lakes, oceans, and the wilderness. It affects the environment in which we live in and of animals, too. By littering you're basically hurting or even killing animals that you adore because wastes can be dangerous to them. PETA, an American animal rights organization, wrote an article about litter. In the article it showed pictures of dead whales, and because there were so much plastics in their body they didn't make it. The

Trash are thrown away because they are not needed anymore, and people are lazy to wait until they find a trash to throw it away. Many don't think that it affects the environment because nothing has happened to them yet, but it actually does. According to Juan in his article, "How does Littering Affect the Environment", he said that littering damages the places where we live, work, and play. No one is doing much to prevent litter because they don't think highly of it, people are only paying fines if they are caught littering, but that is useless because people don't really get caught. The minimum fine for littering on roadways and highways is $400. To avoid paying fees, don't litter because it can become a bad habit. To avoid making it a habit always remember to pick up trash whether it is on the way to school, work, or while taking a walk can make a difference. Always make sure to carry a bag and disposable gloves to help motivate us more into picking up trash whenever we see it. Donna Lawrence wrote an article about picking up 10 pieces of trash. World Expeditions is the program that Lawrence is referring to. World Expeditions believes that picking up litter is going to keep the wilderness clean. Their goal is to encourage travelers to pick up 10 pieces of trash while on a walk, and the bigger the group is, the more trash there is altogether, and they do not want to leave traces of trash, but instead traces …show more content…
Water pollution can harm the living things that drink or make it their home, such as sea turtles. The pollutants is mostly because of unwanted wastes and the problem is because it's us throwing trash away carelessly. According to Sea Turtle Inc., the commonly asked question is about sea turtles and why they are important. Sea turtles live in the sea, and that is their home, but we have been polluting their homes with disposing our unwanted trash and that harms them. Sea turtles are declining because they are mistaking our grabage as their food. "All too often, sea turtles mistake trash for the creatures that they prey upon" ( ). In the blog posted by Marine Litter Solutions, it talked about marine litter and the different types of it. "Marine litter is human-created waste that has been discharges into the coastal or marine environment" ( ). There are "roughly about 70 percent of marine litter, such as glass, metal, and all sorts of marine equipment" ( ). Because of littering, it can make its way into the waters that animals live in and can also cause harm to plants that need the water to

To add another factor that hurts the green sea turtle is this species losing its habitat. Green sea turtles will use beaches for nesting. These nesting areas can become disturbed or ruined by way of human activities. Pollution also plays a role in endangering green sea turtles, as when pollution such as plastic is ingested by a sea turtle, it can cause an internal block, resulting in a number of issues such as bad health, death and even slowing the growth of the turtle down. Pollution includes traps and lines and can cause sea turtles to become entangled in pollution which can lead to a slower…

Our predecessors in the last hundred years have tried everything from ignoring the trash in the streets that caused unknown illnesses to forms of burning and burying the waste which both caused significant problems on their own. Not until recent years did our technology catch up to the overwhelming manufacturing of debris. By trial and errors, science has found new ways to capitalize on the emissions that escape from landfills. We have created a symbiotic relationship with how trash is processed, producing countless amounts of energy for our country. Laskas focuses on the pride of our up and coming country, yet the amount of trash that flows in on a daily basis is consistently overwhelming. Humans still can’t follow the rules of disposal, they sneak in illegal Substances that hurt the environment, toxic elements that infect the surroundings. As technology and landfill science battle to fight these lawbreakers, landfill employees fight their own individual battle of creating a safe habitat. They focus on small debris flying away, animals digging through piles of junk, the safety, and care of one…

Most people think nothing of throwing their trash on the street or crossing the street in the middle of traffic. It is done so much that it seems like a normal thing to do. Trippett, in “ A Red Light for Scofflaws” says that this is a growing problem. Trippett states “When it comes to tax codes, or laws against littering or speeding or noise pollution, more and more ordinary citizens are becoming scofflaws [people who casually break the law]” (Trippett). The only reason these laws being broken is a big deal is because of the amount breaking them. For example, if cities were so clean that there was not a single piece of trash on the street, or in any public place, littering might not be such a big deal. However, most cities are riddled with trash. It is not one of those things that they do not want done just because. If littering continues to grow, the result could be catastrophic. Another…

People toss litter around like a game of basketball, except there’s no hoop around to aim it in (simile and irony)! Although it is a personal choice to litter and be impatient to locate a trashcan, lack of trash bins for disposable waste is a major issue. Let’s say you go out for a walk with a bag of chips. You’re out walking and once you finish the chips, you look around and realize you’re a hopeless puppy (metaphor) - there’s no public trash can anywhere! You have two options: you either litter like a madman (simile) or you patiently wait for a trashcan to appear. Most people unfortunately decide to litter. If a few trashcans were placed every few blocks, it’d be easier for everyone to throw away their trash and fewer people will decide to litter. Placing more trashcans will also make it easier for garbage collectors to gather up trash, not to mention it is better for the environment to live in a cleaner world.…

Littering is a very important law for many good reasons. One example of why littering is a terrible thing is because it doesn’t look good for your community. People who go and look for houses in your community might not want to move into your community because they do not want to be looked at by other people as living in a gross community. If visitors of the community visit that place once, they probably might not want to go back. Trash pick up also cost a lot of money too. Picking up trash is not a fun job to have. Today, we can walk down the street and find a piece of trash about everywhere we turn. The trash that we can mostly see are fast-foods bags or cups, candy wrappers, Popsicle wrappers, empty bottles of water, and empty soda cans along with other small trash. Those items listed are the ones most frequently seen on the streets. Honestly, it really irritates and bothers me to see so much trash sitting around waiting to be picked up to be put inside the correct place, the garbage. When I get the chance, I pick up the trash in front of me and throw it away. Many times people that know me, question my actions about me picking up something I did not throw. Quick to respond, I explain to them that I care too much about Earth to see others mistreat it.…

No one cares about recycling anymore and that is becoming a big problem for the environment and the animals who are dying. Most people don’t recycle and that is a problem because in most countries it doesn’t look pretty. The problem is happening at school lunchrooms and we need to do something about it. The more we don’t recycle the more we are killing the animals, and making the world a worse place to live in. The animals are mistaking cans for food on the road and swoop down and could get hit by a car and probably die. The more that we recycle we save the animals and the world from pollution. Recycling cuts down on trash and saves money. Most…

A couple years ago, when I lived in Midland, TX, we had a thing called Keep Midland Beautiful that I would volunteer at. They would always assign my group to a place where it would take about 20 minutes to pick up, and then we could leave. So, my first impression of this was that it wouldn’t take the two hours assigned and we could leave in no time. I was wrong. I had filled up two trash bags within the first hour! And at the end, there was at least 50 trash bags that everyone else gathered up. That’s not even counting the pieces of Styrofoam or even the tires that were found. It was very surprising because I didn’t know one little area could get so dirty. But after I found out about the floods, and peoples trash from other towns were being put there it all made sense.…

Littering is what pollutes the earth. Fast food wrappers and cigarette butts are the most commonly littered items and 50% of the time the litterer doesn’t even realize he/she is doing it (EPA, 2016). By throwing the trash in a garbage and bottle and cans in the recycle bin instead of out the window, the amount of pollution that is affecting our water sources and wildlife will decrease. This will also save time and money spent on trying to clean the litter up. Also, not only will using a garbage help, but if you come across a piece of litter, pick it up and throw it away (Flagstaff, 2015). Litter is the main source of pollution and it can be…
