VMS deposits occur in a diversity of shapes ranging from flat lens shaped to large sheet-like sulphide mineral rich bodies (Allen, et al., 2002). The preferred environment for these deposits to form in is submarine near a seafloor opening i.e. black smokers, where hydrothermal fluids escape and precipitate on the ocean bottom (Evans & Moon, 2006). The mineralogy of Kidd Creek VMS deposits often consists out of more than 60 different ore minerals and ore-related gangue minerals, of which 90% or more are iron sulphide such as pyrite, pyrrhotite, sphalerite, chalcopyrite and galena. Minerals like bornite, arsenopyrite, tennantite and magnetite may be present in smaller amounts. The gangue is mainly quartz, but occasionally carbonate can also develop…
Analysis of the Luria-Nebraska Neuropsychological Test Battery: Revised Children's Version The Luria-Nebraska Neuropsychological Battery (LNNB) created by Charles Golden, based on the previous work of Russian neuropsychologist A.R. Luria, is a neuropsychological battery that was originally developed to evaluate and measure neuropsychological deficiencies, specifically, in the learning, experience, and cognitive skills of adults ages fifteen and older. Golden later revised his work to evaluate children ages 8 through 12, which he named the Luria-Nebraska Neuropsychological Battery: Children's Revision (LNNB-C). Similar to the original version, the LNNB-C is a standardized test used diagnose cognitive deficits in the localization and lateralization of brain impairments and assist in the planning of rehabilitation (Golden,…

Electric cars have been around for a long time. Even back in the 1960’s the automobile industry was dabbling with electric cars. For the idea of an electric car having been around for at least 50 years now, the fact the world has not totally accepted the electric car as being better for the world show that it must not be better. In fact, electric cars are bad for the world for numerous reasons. These reasons include: electric cars are a waste of time where people are pursuing an idea that is not better, electric cars cause just as much pollution but in other ways, the batteries from electric cars are bad for the environment when the car is no longer in use, the electricity grid capacity in the world can not handle all cars being electric,…
The Integrity of Women and Gender Studies This text is a fairly short opinion piece written by Matt Frohlich for The Spectrum (Frohlich). The Spectrum is the paper of North Dakota State University where Matt is an academic researcher and received a master’s degree in Materials and Nanotechnology (Frohlich). Prior to that, he graduated from the University of North Dakota with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering (Frohlich).…
People know that electric cars are better for the environment than your typical car that runs on gasoline, but for some reason people are still not buying them as much as they’re buying gas cars. I believe that the reason for that is that all electric cars need to charge, and they all share the same problem at the moment. They all have the inconvenience of having to charge their batteries for long periods of time. Charging the batteries is not the biggest problem, the biggest problem is that the batteries take an extremely long time to charge. I am currently studying to try and become a mechanical engineer, so what intrigues me is finding ways to make things more efficient and productive, in this case with the electric car batteries.…
ORGANIZATIONAL CHANGE We live in an age of transition. The only thing that is constant is change. Everything changes continually. Change has become a fundamental aspect of historical evolution.…
Electrolyte Disorders, Pediatric Electrolytes are minerals found in the body’s blood and tissues in the form of dissolved salts. Electrolyte disorders occur when there is an imbalance between the amount of water and essential minerals in the blood, urine, and other bodily fluids. When this happens, it can affect the normal function of the brain, heart, liver, and other organs. Your child gets electrolytes from foods and drinks. Electrolytes function to: • Keep the amount of fluids in the body in balance.…
Zinc is a naturally-existing metal that can be found throughout the world. The material is common enough to be found in organic matter, not just rocks and soil as other metal ores. Zinc is used in agriculture to fertilize land to increase harvests. Zinc is mined throughout the world, with the extraction procedures primarily used that avoid strip mining. Thus, it minimizes the environmental damage typically caused by the mining and extraction methods practiced for other metals.…
When a toxic, non-biocompatible pollutant is treated, the electrochemical conversion transforms the organic substrate into a variety of metabolites; often, biocompatible organics are generated, and biological treatment is still required after the electrochemical oxidation. In contrast, electrochemical degradation yields water and CO2, no further purification being necessary.…
The major problems of today’s electric cars are definitely range and high price, which primarily results from high producing costs of battery pack. As Elon Musk said, it is not a big problem to build a fully electric car with a long range, but it is extremely difficult to mass produce it, so it can be “affordable” in a way. The high costs of batteries and the ineffective battery technology were limiting their driving range, because the car had to be affordable. That’s why established automakers couldn’t bring to the market mass produced, affordable, fully electric car with long driving range. [Source 1] [Source 2]…
The Impact of Technology In the twenty-first century, technology is developing faster than the rainforest is recovering. Technology has become an important part of daily life for most people. It solves various problems, but tends to create others. People spend a lot of time using technology that they may forget about the effects it may have on the environment. Since the main goal of technology is to be more efficient, companies are developing products that meet the efficiency standards.…

Did you get the new iPhone yet? What do you plan on doing with your old one? These are some questions that should be asked about any new electronics. Many company’s work to make the new great electronic device for the year, but this can lead to some serious environmental issues. When someone gets the new iPhone it is not uncommon for them to simply throw away the old one.…
An airport is a great place to find lines of people that do nothing but have their heads glued to their phones while waiting for their flight. Sadly, I am of those mindless zombies, who sits at the tables with the provided charging ports with my phone in hand and my face staring blankly down at the screen. Often when I am in that position, I find myself scanning the environment to see people scramble in a rush to plug their phones in before it hit 0%. When I see people perform such actions, I often wonder, where does the electricity come from to charge those mindless media consumption devices? Here in Oregon, my home State which is known for constant rain, the electricity comes from a wide variety of resources such as coal and petroleum to nuclear energy.…
