External Sources In The Recruitment Process

Organizations are often forced to resort to external sources in the recruitment process when suitable candidates are not found within the organization. There are several types of external sources in the recruitment process such as walk ins, referrals, advertising, employment agencies, search firms, campus visits, professional associations, and computerized services. Below are the advantages and disadvantages of each.
Referrals- A recruitment method in which candidates are recommended by someone for a job position.
When an employee refers someone, they would definitely not try to refer someone who is not fit for the job. They would want to put in a good word for someone who would be able to provide quality work. Therefore, a company can always

If an employee referral candidate gets hired, an organization runs the risk of the creating a division amongst employees and can create violations of EEOC Regulations.
Walk ins- A recruitment method where an applicant initiates the application process. Small employers still hire the old-fashioned way by posting a sign on the window.
An advantage to this method of recruitment is that it is inexpensive, as there is no cost associated with this type of recruitment. This type of recruitment can make the hiring process less time consuming for employers. It can provide an organization with great variety of talent.
The bad news is that this type of recruitment method usually tends to fill only entry level positions. With this type of recruitment, there is no pre-screening involved, all applicants are seen, even if they are not qualified candidates for the type of position looking to be filled.

One of the benefits in this method of recruitment is that firms perform an extensive outreach in the recruitment process. These firms have the expertise needed to streamlines the hiring process. Since these candidates are well trained and have experience, they require minimal training.
A huge turnoff of utilizing search firms is that they can be an expensive recruitment method. They also usually tend to rush through the process as the larger the candidate approval selection, the more money they make. They can be the cause of a detached candidate and employer relationship from the get go.
Advertising- Advertising can vary from a simple newspaper or radio ad to online promotion of communication to attract job applicants.
A perk seen through advertising is that you can reach a wider audience, therefore, there is more of a candidate selection pool. Along with this selection comes diverse perspectives and

    I feel the company would benefit if they looked within in their own firm to see if there was anybody suitable and had the necessary skills for the job. This would benefit the firm much better than external recruitment as the person they are hiring knows the company much better, knows how it works and its policies.
