Literature Review Process Of Credibility

Improved Essays
What a lesson I have learned! I feel a bit foolish for thinking that everything published is credible. I have had this mindset during my doctoral journey because I have had no reason to believe that a peer-reviewed journal article or an educational or governmental source would lack credibility. Through this journey in my doctoral research and writing class, I have discovered that everything I read may not be fully credible. The discovery is troubling and now I need to learn how to decipher credible and non-credible information and sources. I want all areas of my journey to have credibility and I want my academic discourse community to find my dissertation credible and useful as a resource. This reflection paper will focus on credible and reliable …show more content…
The main challenge for me in the literature review is going to be in finding a vast array of literature on my topic that is sophisticated and credible. I agree with Boote and Beile (2005) and their assessment of the doctoral literature review and how the literature review should be thorough, credible, sophisticated, and increase the overall understanding of a topic. I will and should be a credible expert on my topic at the end of the literature review process. I believe that this literature review process will be daunting and possibly take me the longest to complete out of the five chapters because it needs to be so extensive. Extensive information is available on many topics. Information can be found on many platforms, from books to the Internet, and it is up to me to know what is credible and not credible for my literature review. The literature review is a chance for me to tell my story about my topic from the past to the present through literature. Understanding what has already been done in the past will help bring an understanding of what else may be done in the present and in the …show more content…
I am happy to now have the knowledge and tips of finding credibility in sources. I can now make an informed decision about the sources I am reading and decide based on the credibility of the source in terms of the tips learned including the identity of the authors, references used, and the results of the research if it is a source that can be included in my literature review and dissertation. I have learned a lot at this current point, but still, have a lot to learn on this journey about various areas from week one with scholarly writing to this third week with literature reviews and credibility. I feel like a sponge right now. I have soaked up and learned new information since week one starting with defining the Ed.D degree, scholarly writing, psychological safety, and now this week (week three) with finding out that not all sources are credible. I am finding myself more vocal and inquisitive in class with less fear. I am ready and wanting to receive all the information possible to guide me through this life-changing

One research method to look at when reviewing past literature is reviewing correlation studies and study their relationships. Other scientific research that I would use is the experimental method or case study to study the direct impact it has on certain individuals or communities. These methods could study the direct effect on proximal levels such as studying certain afterschool programs or extra-help class and how they affect students in the community overall. (Whether or not they can reduce crime-rates / or increase graduation in public schools). After going through the literature review, I would then try to apply certain changes and work with other consultants / community researchers that will help create and sustain the change in the…

A literature review gives context to current as well as past studies and compares the proposed research with what has been done in the past to help the researcher understand what has been done and what they need to do in their own research. The four components of an annotated bibliography are to (1) establish credibility, (2) summarize the work, (3) explain how this source relates to the other sources being used, and (4) explain how you will use this source and how it relates to your research. A literature review has three components, (1) an introduction, where you are to introduce the topic and provide a preview of what will be seen in the rest of the review. In the introduction, the writer also makes a claim which is a brief explanation of what the research will show.…

I started my journey through writing this year a bundle of nerves and a stomach full of coffee. This is my first year taking an advanced English course, but I was determined to do well. There has been no sleeping in class or slacking off this year, I’m lucky enough to take a college course a year early and at a better price, and I’m not going to waste it. I’ve learned a lot this semester, including but not limited to: identifying how exactly the author’s purpose and audience determines effective writing, developing pieces of writing though a process of planning, revising, and drafting, compose an organized essay with clear points and main ideas, used appropriate tone and formality, critiqued writing, and finally how to grasp the MLA format. My writing has improved through the concepts I have learned this semester.…

However, the feedback I received on my assignment helped me recognise my personal strengths and weaknesses and to develop on areas I needed to improve in order to get a better grade. I was able to cite a variety of relevant sources, thinking back I feel I need to review my research strategies. I still somewhat struggle when it comes down to researching a topic, therefore my main goal is to expand my sources and be able to improve my referencing abilities by the sources I consult and what I do with my findings. I need to plan which primary and secondary sources will help me find the material I need and to ensure I refer to in force and up to date materials. I was marked down and this was quite possibly due to me not citing authoritative sources and not using the OSCOLA referencing style guide accurately.…
