The literature on male, students of color who were previously youth offenders is limited; it is important to broaden the scope of knowledge and literature on males of color, correctional facilities, recidivism applies. The relevant literature can be categorized into three areas as (1) Correctional Facilities Engaging in Post Secondary Education, (2) Education as a form of recidivism reduction (3) Education Attainment of male of color.
Correctional Facilities Engaging in Post Secondary Education Educational programs are limited in each state depending on the funding that is allocated, some prisons provide a wide range of activities and facilities, while other facilities operate on limited programs. In our nations penitentiaries, statistics have shown the significance number of reducing recidivism when introducing educational programs and partnership with local institutions of higher education. According to Hall & Killacky (2008) statistics from 2002 states that out of the two million men and women incarcerated 90% of all inmates will be released from prison, from witch 75% will commit an additional crime with in a time laps of three years, 60% will return to prison from witch only 40% who earn a GED will return to jai and only 10% of those who completed two years if college would be arrested. The numbers presented above reflect a positive scenario when education is present the numbers of recidivism drop at a high rate. In addition, recidivism can be taught within prison, Rose (2010) conducted a quantitative study from the fall 2006 to spring 2008 introducing the reader to the concept of obtaining admission to college from within prison. Rose research provides insightful information on education attainment with in prison and a prime example was when 6 percent of his student populations, a total of 3 students obtain admissions to college just a few months away from exiting
