What words come to mind when you think about literature? I think of individuality, originality, talent, and greatness. These words plus many more describe William Shakespeare. Throughout the centuries, there have been many authors, poets, and novelists who have left an enormous impact in literature. Shakespeare would definitely be at the top of that list.
William Shakespeare was baptized on April 26, 1564, but the actual date of his birth is unknown. It is assumed that he was born on April 23, 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon, England because keeping account of records during this time was a difficult task and some records were misplaced. He was the oldest child of eight children born to John and Mary Shakespeare. Due to the passing of two older sisters who died as infants, it made the number of living children only six. He wasn’t born in a wealthy family, but his writing ability sure entered him into fame. He has made many contributions in literature and some may even think of him as the greatest poet or writer of all times.
Shakespeare has written 37 plays and 154 sonnets to date. He has written different genres of plays such as comedies, tragedies, and history. Some of the titles of his plays may be well known and others may not have been heard of, but if you are a true Shakespeare fan, then all titles would ring a bell.
