John Steinbeck commentates on humans tendency use and abuse their power in “Of Mice and Men”, by using literary devices and techniques. Steinbeck wants the reader to be aware of how troublesome human nature can be, so we gain the understanding that drives us to change. He uses symbolism and character development(or lack of), and other literary devices to tie in themes. One symbol that is used was Candy’s dog and Lennie’s death. Candy had a very strong relationship with his dog, even if he was an animal. This is similar to how strong George and Lennie are so close, and the importance of this ties into the theme of friendship/companionship and how important it is. Lennie is even compared to an animal in the very beginning of the book. On
