The narrator, brother, who is the protagonist of the story, tells his memories of one summer when he lost his disable brother, Doodle. On that summer he & the antagonist (Doodle) who was his handicapped brother, got the chance of seeing the Scarlet Ibis for the first time. The red bird which died under the bleeding tree in their yard, established a remarkable exotic beauty of the creature in his memories. This memory interspersed the death of Doodle which after that anchored in the narrator’s mind.
Both protagonist & the antagonist had to deal with various conflicts. The first conflict for the protagonist, brother, who is due to his age & personality was struggling with his own thoughts of selfishness (Man V/s himself).
